CREATIVE BUSINESSES & PRODUCERS
A good place to start

Here’s when you need me.

The dispute is taking shape.

You need a litigator to assess the claims, develop a strategy, and help decide what comes next—from an early response through trial.

The documents are becoming the case.

You are facing a substantial review, a difficult production, or messages scattered across email, texts, and collaboration platforms. You need a workable approach to the evidence.

Discovery has stalled.

The other side is not meeting its discovery obligations or complying with an eDiscovery order. You need help identifying the gaps and framing the next step.

The brief needs another set of hands.

You need focused research and writing support for a dispositive motion, an anti-SLAPP motion, or another consequential filing.

Your business needs ongoing counsel.

You want someone who knows the business and can help with agreements, employment questions, intellectual property, and the decisions that do not fit neatly into one category.

Let’s talk about what’s ahead
A closer look / eDiscovery

The evidence needs a plan.

I connect discovery planning and review management to the decisions counsel needs to make.

Understand the sources.

Plan for the sources that matter: email, texts, Slack, and ephemeral communications, each with its own collection and review questions.

Direct the review.

Experience leading dozens of reviewers, with a focus on the issues in the case and the evidence counsel needs.

Work through the gaps.

Identify production gaps and frame a litigation response when the opposing party falls short of its discovery obligations.

02 / Selected experience

A few examples
of the work.

Selected litigation, eDiscovery,
and advisory engagements.

Into the details

Combined litigation defense, eDiscovery consulting, and document review management in a dispute over alleged hacking. Read the case story below.

Provided eDiscovery consulting and managed discovery in a complex commercial dispute between shopping mall landlords and tenants over fees.

Making the case

Drafted successful summary judgment motions, demurrers, motions to dismiss, and anti-SLAPP motions on behalf of counsel in business, real estate, contract, negligence, defamation, trademark, and copyright disputes.

Defeated a defamation lawsuit against a global recording artist through an anti-SLAPP motion.

Obtained dismissal with prejudice of federal trademark claims concerning ownership of a historic lodging house’s mark.

Finding the way through

Represented a client in a two-week jury trial involving real estate and defamation claims. After the jury deadlocked, the opposing party dismissed its claims, and the client dismissed their own, bringing the dispute to a close.

Negotiated an out-of-court resolution of a defamation lawsuit involving a music producer and a performer.

Negotiated settlements involving modest payments in multiple copyright infringement cases on behalf of clients who disputed the allegations.

Alongside the business

Served as general counsel to a healthcare communications company for more than 12 years, handling transactions, negotiating agreements, and advising on contracts, employment, and intellectual property.

Served as production legal counsel to independent films shooting in New York, Florida, and California, and advised on distribution agreements.

Drafted numerous workplace investigation reports for a boutique workplace investigations firm.

Two closer looks

The work behind the result.

A hacking allegation.
A discovery problem.

Two individuals faced hacking allegations from the nonprofit they had formerly worked for. My role combined their defense with eDiscovery consulting and leadership of dozens of document reviewers.

The plaintiff’s discovery misconduct resulted in substantial sanctions. Before the hearing on the defendants’ summary judgment motions, the plaintiff voluntarily dismissed its case with prejudice.

Litigation and document review management in the same engagement.

Counsel who knows
the business.

For more than 12 years, I have served as general counsel to a healthcare communications company, handling transactions, negotiating agreements, and advising on contracts, employment, and intellectual property.

The engagement reflects another side of my practice: an ongoing relationship that carries across individual agreements and legal questions.

Long-term advice across the life of a business.
